American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Achieving compliance with the Commission on Cancer standards The American College of Surgeons (ACS) requires that 90% of analytical cancer cases are staged clinically using the AJCC Staging format. These standardized forms were developed in 1959 in order to develop a system of clinical staging for cancer that would be acceptable to the American Medical profession. The AJCC Staging manuals are updated periodically. The current AJCC Staging Manual version is the 6th Edition.
