Information About St Raphael Site

History

The hospital was established over one hundred years ago with only twelve beds and became an advanced medical center. By the early part of the 1950s, it was a leader in New England in two key areas: cancer treatment and cardiac care; it was the first hospital in the region to create a radiation therapy center; the hospital was also one of earliest community hospitals to try out open-heart operations. This commitment to innovative health care and patient dignity has defined the campus’s brand.

In early 2012, Hospital of Saint Raphael, an acute care Catholic hospital merged with Yale New Haven Hospital system and became a centrally administered organization with two campuses and a total of 1541 beds.
