Sleep Health Program

175 Sherman Avenue New Haven, CT 06522 203-867-8141 Are you among the four percent of adults who don’t get a good night’s sleep because of sleep apnea, which causes breathing to “pause” intermittently? To diagnose sleep apnea, the Hospital of Saint Raphael’s Sleep Health Program offers testing in your home. Patients in our program are referred by their physician and then evaluated by our board-certified sleep physician to determine if in-home testing is appropriate. How we test In-home testing involves a small, portable monitor to collect information about your sleep patterns. This proven way to diagnose sleep apnea is less expensive and more comfortable than an overnight stay in a laboratory, which other programs recommend. Our Sleep Health Program is also comprehensive, from testing through long-term care. And your physician is kept informed each step of the way. Take sleep apnea seriously It can lead to:

  • Neurocognitive (mental) impairment, such as excessive sleepiness, fatigue, poor concentration and memory loss
  • Cardiovascular(heart/blood vessels) complications, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attack, atrial fibrillation(rapid heartbeat) and stroke

Warning signs If you experience any of the following conditions, ask your doctor if you should be referred for a sleep apnea evaluation:

  • Excessive sleepiness
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Loud snoring
  • Pauses in breathing during sleep
  • Obesity
  • High blood pressure and taking more than one medication
  • History of heart attack, atrial fibrillation (rapid heartbeat), stroke or sexual dysfunction
