Scott Helton, M.D., FACS – Chairman, Department of Surgery
Chair of the Department of Surgery, Dr. Helton came to Saint Raphael’s from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he served as professor and chief of general surgery; director of the Laparoscopic Fellowship Training Program and Surgical Education Laboratory. Dr. Helton earned his M.D. from the University of California, Irvine and completed his surgical residency at The University of Washington. He completed fellowships in GI physiology, surgical nutrition and metabolism and HPB surgery and liver transplantation. Dr. Helton is nationally and internationally respected as a surgeon, researcher and educator in the fields of HPB and minimally invasive surgery. He serves on the executive council of the AHPBA and IHPHBA, on the GI subcommittee of the American Board of Surgery and on the accreditation committee of the fellowship council that oversees training in foregut and HPB surgery. Dr. Helton has published extensively in the field of general surgery and serves on several editorial boards.
