Down Syndrome Adult Assessment

Down Syndrome Adult Assessment

As adults with Down syndrome are living longer lives than in the past, research has shown that people with the condition often develop Alzheimer’s disease at an earlier age, which may go undetected.  With the help of the Connecticut Down Syndrome Congress, the Hospital of Saint Raphael is now offering assessments for adults with Down syndrome to identify, diagnose, and treat geriatric conditions among Down syndrome patients.

Saint Raphael’s senior assessment clinic will dedicate the fourth Tuesday of each month to assisting people with Down Syndrome and their families.  The screenings will take place by appointment only from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the Sister Anne Virginie Grimes Health Center on Chapel Street.

The hospital is also working to educate community health professionals regarding Down syndrome to improve the delivery of health care to this population.  To schedule an appointment, call the Healthy Aging Line at 203-789-3275.
