HOTLINE: 203-789-3124
Though breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second-leading cause of cancer death among American women, 96% of breast cancers detected early can be successfully treated. While high-quality mammography (an X-ray of the internal structure of the breast) is the most effective technology available for breast cancer screening, new breast imaging technologies are in development to detect and diagnose breast health.
Saint Raphael’s offers:
- Breast Ultrasound
- CT or CAT Scan
- Ductography
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (Breast MRI)
- Mammograms (including digital mammography)
- Positron emission tomography (PET)
Designated an ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
With accreditation in four key areas of specialized radiology, the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This distinction recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.
Saint Raphael’s is fully accredited in the areas of mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and expert medical physicists determined that Saint Raphael’s has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
