Radiation Oncology – A Welcome Message

Radiation Oncology – A Welcome Message

Joseph G. Cardinale, MD
Chairman, Department of Radiation Oncology

Director, Father Michael J. McGivney Center for Cancer Care

The physicians and staff of the Father Michael J. McGivney Center for Cancer Care welcome you.  Our goal is to provide state-of-the-art cancer care in a compassionate atmosphere that promotes healing.

Today’s cancer care requires the coordination of a variety of specialties for comprehensive evaluation and management of each patient’s care.  A cross section of physicians and staff including surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and a variety of subspecialty physicians collaborate so that our patients have a broad spectrum of clinical experts reviewing their case and offering opinions to optimize a patient’s coordinated treatment plan.

Multidisciplinary conferences are routinely held for all major types of cancer including lung cancer, breast cancer, urologic cancers, gastrointestinal cancers, neurologic tumors, head and neck cancer and gynecologic cancers.  Our efforts for coordinated care have recently been recognized with accreditation for our Women’s Center for Breast Health from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.

Combining high-quality patient care with high-tech medical therapies such as CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) with sophisticated image guidance technology, and brachytherapy including partial breast treatments, we offer a host of advanced treatments that can be tailored to individual needs.  We’re dedicated to treating the whole patient, not just an individual’s medical health.  Through our unique Looking Forward Program, we address our patient’s emotional, spiritual and nutritional needs with integrative wellness programs including yoga, reiki, individual counseling, and support groups.

We offer the opportunity to participate in a variety of clinical research trials including some sponsored by the National Cancer Institute.  Our physicians act as principal investigators and our support staff are available to help guide individuals through the process.  Through community outreach programs, we offer free prostate cancer screenings as well as breast and cervical cancer screenings.

Most importantly, we offer a dedicated and caring staff.  I am very proud of the care they provide.  From the moment patients walk through our front door, they become keenly aware that they have entered a facility that truly cares about providing them with the best in medical practice and compassionate cancer treatment.  It is our honor and privilege to serve the individuals and families who seek our care.
