Balloon Angioplasty

Balloon Angioplasty

Balloon angioplasty employs a catheter with a balloon on the end.  Once the catheter has reached the clogged blood vessel, the balloon is inflated and used to reshape the artery to allow blood flow more easily.  Doctors then frequently insert a stent, or a coil, into the artery to help keep the area open; these stents may be “bare metal” or “drug coated”.  Your cardiologist will determine which is most appropriate for each individual situation.
