Saint Raphael’s was one of the first hospitals in Connecticut to perform the remarkable beating heart bypass, and has performed more of them than most hospitals in the state.
During beating-heart bypass, the heart remains beating throughout this form of surgery, eliminating the need to place the patient on a heart-lung machine and to restart the heart following surgery. Patients require less anesthesia, experience fewer complications, and have significantly shorter recovery times.
