The Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) practices family-centered care. Parents are members of the same team as the neonatologists, nurses, therapists and other support members. The NICU staff encourages parents to be involved in each step. For this reason, parents and grandparents have 24-hour access to their baby. There is a room in the NICU specifically dedicated to parents where mothers can pump breast milk for their babies and a parent can sleep in order to be close to their baby.
