Murali N. Naidu, M.D.
Dr. Naidu is the Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Director of Bariatric Surgery at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. He earned a B.A. with highest honors in Molecular and Cell Biology, emphasis in Neurobiology from the University of California, Berkeley. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine and then completed his General Surgery residency training at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, California. In 2006, he moved to New York to specialize further in Minimally Invasive Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. During his training, Dr. Naidu authored several chapters in textbooks of Minimally Invasive Surgery and presented his cases and research at national meetings.
For the past two years, Dr. Naidu has built a specialized experience in Minimally Invasive Surgery at Kaiser Permanente. His expertise includes the diagnosis and management of gastroesophageal reflux disease, colorectal disorders, abdominal hernias, and morbid obesity. In addition to being a regular participant in national meetings, he serves on the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons’ committee on research.

Ursula McMillian, M.D.
Dr. Ursula D. McMillian graduated from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT with a bachelors degree in Physiology and Neurobiology in 2000, and a Doctor of Medicine in 2004. She completed her internship at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine in General Surgery. She completed her residency in General Surgery at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in 2009, and a fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Danbury hospital in Danbury, CT in 2010.
She is currently board eligible and plans to complete the American Board of Surgery exam for complete certification in October 2010. She is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). She performs many advanced laparoscopic procedures which include inguinal hernia repair, umbilical hernia repair, ventral hernia repair, solid organ surgery, hiatal and paraesophageal hernia repair, and weight loss surgery. She performs many of these procedures using microlaparoscopy, which utilizes very small 3 mm incisions.

Geoffrey S. Nadzam, M.D., FACS
Dr. Nadzam is the Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven. He completed his surgical residency and a fellowship in laparoscopic bariatrics and surgical robotics at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA. He earned a degree in biology at Rutgers College in 1992 and attended UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. He completed his surgical residency and a laparoscopic bariatric fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA. Dr. Nadzam joined the Center for Obesity Surgery in August of 2004, specializing in bariatric surgery.
Dr. Nadzam has authored several publications ranging from cell physiology to robotic surgery. He is board certified in General Surgery by the American College of Surgeons, and is a Fellow in the American College of Surgery. His society memberships include the the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons.

Elmer L. Valin, M.D.
Dr. Valin graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1985 with a BS degree and attended medical school at the University of the East, the Phillipines. He completed an internal medicine residency in 1993 at the Hospital of Saint Raphael, followed by a second residency in surgery in 1998 at the same location. He was named chief surgical resident in 1997.
Dr. Valin is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons and is certified by the American Society for Bariatric Physicians. He was the first surgeon in Connecticut to perform LapBand gastric banding, and performs a wide range of obesity and post weight loss surgery.
