Why your gift is important

Why your gift is important

Saint Raphael’s has a loyal following among patients, physicians, donors, staff and volunteers–a loyalty that stems from its long commitment to excellence and to mission. Yet today’s health care climate is extremely complex and very competitive.

“We exist to meet the needs of our community,” explains Chris O’Connor, chief executive officer of the Saint Raphael Healthcare System. “We have multiple missions, but a primary mission is to identify things that contribute to health deterioration in our community and to design initiatives to resolve those problems. So we must partner with our community, get their input, and be a very inclusive organization, planning strategies to address those concerns. It’s a unique challenge, a unique social responsibility and an accountability that we carry out every day.”

Today, as a healthcare system, Saint Raphael’s reaches into the community more than ever, in new and exciting ways that improve the health and quality of life of the community through the integrated delivery of care.

“Above all, we strive never to stray from the mission of the Sisters of Charity,” says Sister Joan Granville, president of the Saint Raphael Foundation. “Our core commitment is to provide every temporal and spiritual service to the poor, the sick, the elderly and the underserved–to all who need our help. Our extraordinary staff bring this mission to life.”

While these challenging times require careful control of costs, Saint Raphael’s cannot stand still. Instead it is moving into the future with confidence, without compromising either excellence or compassion.

“Our commitment is to remain strong and fiscally responsible so we can continue to provide services as efficiently and effectively as possible,” Benfer says. “We use our resources wisely to ensure that we continue the type of excellence for which we are known. Philanthropy is the key to our success–that margin of difference that enables us to maintain Saint Raphael’s leading edge reputation.”
