In the past, when people went to their doctor's office, the hospital or a nursing home, they didn't ask a lot of questions. They took for granted that they would receive the best care from the most highly trained staff who put their patients' safety first. With increasing media attention to patient safety and a wealth of information available via the Internet and other sources, more and more patients and their loved ones are educating themselves about safety and asking questions of their caregivers. That's the way it should be. Patient safety is -- and always has been -- a top priority in the Saint Raphael Healthcare System, including the Hospital of Saint Raphael, Sister Anne Virginie Grimes Health Center, Hamden Surgery Center and all other Saint Raphael affiliates. At Saint Raphael's, patient safety is an integral part of providing the highest quality health care. It is part of everything we do, and we continually strive to enhance patient safety as part of our ongoing quality improvement activities. Everyone at Saint Raphael's -- from members of our Board of Trustees to physicians and nurses to housekeeping staff -- is involved in and committed to patient safety. As a patient or patient's loved one, you play an enormous role in patient safety. These Web pages will help you learn more about patient safety at Saint Raphael's -- what we do to ensure patient safety and how you can help us. |
