Radiation therapy often involves several weeks of daily
treatments. This treatment method uses highly sophisticated
equipment and requires a great deal of initial planning as well
as constant patient care and monitoring.
Our radiation therapists are highly skilled professionals who assist
in localizing tumors, participate in treatment planning and deliver
treatments as prescribed by a radiation oncologist.
Radiation therapists are also the primary liaisons between patients and
other members of the radiation oncology team during daily treatments.
They also provide a link between patients and other healthcare providers,
such as social workers and dietitians.
Radiation therapists prepare for this role through extensive training and
experience. They must complete an accredited educational program in radiation
therapy and pass a national certification examination.
