Prostate cancer study

There are two clinical trials for prostate cancer treatment. The purpose of first study (P-0014) is to determine which of the following treatment regimens are more effective in reducing the long-term recurrence or progression of prostate cancer:

  • Androgen blockade (hormone therapy) with four cycles of immediate chemotherapy ;

    OR

  • Androgen blockade with delayed chemotherapy
Click here to learn more about hormone therapy. This study is for men with intermediate risk prostate cancer. This is a phase III trial.

The purpose of the second study (RTOG 0232) is to is to determine which of the following treatment regimens are more effective in reducing the long-term recurrence or progression of prostate cancer:

  • Brachytherapy (radioactive seed implant) plus external beam radiation therapy

    OR

  • Brachytherapy alone.
