Breast cancer study

There is one clinical trial for breast cancer treatment. The purpose of this study (RTOG 98-04) is to determine whether or not the addition of radiation therapy will decrease or delay the recurrence of breast cancer and prevent the need for mastectomy over the course of a patient's lifetime.

Participants in this study will receive Tamoxifen (an anti-estrogen medication) at the discretion of the Hospital's lead clinical trial physician. This study is for women with early stage breast cancer, known as DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ). This is a phase III trial.

To learn about specific treatment guidelines, call the McGivney Center at the Hospital of Saint Raphael (203) 789-3545 or e-mail Pat Garofolo, M.S., B.S.N., study coordinator. You may also want to contact your physician for more information.
