Wellness retreats
Looking Forward sponsors an annual National Cancer Survivors Day Wellness Retreat.
Participants have a chance to "relax, renew, reflect and rejoice" on
the gift of life while attending lectures, enjoying chair massages
, Energy medicine
sessions; taking part in a meditation session
or gentle yoga class.
This retreat is one of more than 700 national events that take place annually to honor cancer
survivors and those who support them and focus attention on issues important to cancer
patients and survivors.
Off-site, daylong programs provide opportunities to learn holistic wellness lifestyle skills,
stress management skills and experience complementary therapies like meditation, massage,
yoga, and energy balancing. Participants are encouraged to relax, renew and rejuvenate
themselves in the healing community of others living with cancer.
At least three retreats each year are designed specifically for breast cancer patients.
The June retreat is scheduled to coincide with National Cancer Survivor Day and is open
to any survivor, along with her or his loved ones.
“I credit these retreats with helping me learn to accept life on life’s terms – which means
being able to accept life’s uncertainties, while living every day to its fullest. That doesn’t
mean filling up days with lots of activities and goals, but focusing on things that are really
important to me. These retreats help me stay grounded”
Kate Reynolds, New Haven, a 50-year-old breast cancer patient
