Head and neck cancer consultation

When a health professional suspects head or neck cancer, an otolaryngologist
is generally recommended, and a biopsy performed, to examine tissue cells.
An otolaryngologist is a physician who specializes in disorders of the ear,
nose and throat and related areas of the head and neck. The doctor will ask
you about possible family history or lifestyle risks, and an imaging procedure
may be performed, including one or more of the following:
Suspected cancer in the throat or sinuses might require an endoscopy, in which
a thin, flexible tube is threaded into the mouth or through the nose. The attached
camera sends detailed photos back to the physician. Endoscopy is usually performed
with the patient under local or general anesthesia.
