Treatment for pelvic congestion

Saint Raphael's is using a new procedure called ovarian vein embolization to treat pelvic congestion syndrome. It’s a condition caused by blocked, varicose veins in the pelvis, and affects up to 15 percent of adult women. Symptoms include a dull, aching pelvic pain that worsens with increased pelvic pressure from standing, walking or lifting; postcoital ache; bladder irritability; and cyclical pain. Patients are lightly sedated during this two-hour, minimally invasive procedure, performed on women in their 20s through 40s.
