About the Midwifery Program
Licensed nurse midwives are highly trained professionals who focus on providing medical care, support, counseling and education to women during pregnancy, in the post-partum period and throughout their childbearing years. Embracing a holistic model of care, midwives deliver comprehensive care that combines physical, psychological and social support for women of all ages.
The Hospital of Saint Raphael’s Midwifery Program is part of the Department of Women’s and Children’s Services and is staffed by five certified nurse midwives. The hospital-based setting enables the midwives to collaborate with a sophisticated birthing healthcare team that includes obstetricians, perinatologists and neonatologists. Midwives emphasize the natural birth experience and help women achieve their goals in a supportive, nurturing and family-centered environment.
In addition to maternity related care, the services provided by the midwifery program include all aspects of well women gynecological care, from adolescence through menopause.
