Predictable RN to patient ratios |
|
In late 2001, Saint Raphael’s became the first Connecticut hospital to use a new model for staff scheduling, and patient placement, that creates predictable nurse to patient ratios and workloads. The model bases scheduling on a targeted daily census and an agreed-upon RN to patient ratio. | each cares for no more than five patients. Staffing units to the targeted census, and changing how and where patients are placed – plus the sequence of placement -- makes care delivery more predictable and allows more nurses to be at the bedside. |
