Expecting the birth of your child is such an exciting time and the Hospital of Saint Raphael’s recognizes the importance of preparing for your birth. Saint Raphael’s provides a “Family Centered” environment with comprehensive care to every patient. We offer a full range of services to help prepare you for your delivery. Some of our services include prenatal classes, Labor Suites, Post Partum care and a Special Care Nursery. In addition, we have a newborn intensive care unit, as well as a transitional nursery, for those infants who need special care and attention.

Labor and Delivery Unit

Labor & Delivery is a nine bed unit with six birthing rooms, one triage room and two OR Suites. The Delivery Team will individualize your plan of care to make sure we meet your expectations. Trained in the latest delivery methods, we offer labor support and 24-hour in-house anesthesia services.

As a “Family Centered” Hospital we encourage you to have a support person(s) to assist you in labor and share your birth experience. Talk to your physician if you have any questions about choosing a labor coach. We also allow “Siblings at Birth” as long as they have attended our special classes and meet the criteria.

Sibling Tour: Come see the unit and hear about birth through the eyes of a child. An excellent way to prepare your young child for the birth of his/her new sibling.

Post Partum

Once your baby has been delivered you will be given time to bond and breastfeed (if desired). As soon as you are ready, your nurse will assist you and help you prepare for your Post Partum stay. Our Post Partum Unit is an 11 bed unit with private rooms. Dads (significant other) are encouraged to stay and be part of your hospital experience. Saint Raphael’s Hospital encourages rooming in. Caring for your baby under the guidance of skilled nurses provides the optimal learning experience and prepares parents for the transition from hospital to home. If you prefer some time alone, your baby may be taken to our nursery and cared for by our skilled nursery staff.

Classes

Saint Raphael's offers a number of classes to help you and your family prepare for the upcoming arrival of your new baby. To register for one of our classes, please call 203. 789.3300.
