Gwen Meszaros, Radiation therapist
You could say Gwen Meszaros was born to be a radiation therapist at Saint Raphael's. "I was born here, then I became a candy striper, and then I got a job here in the Radiation oncology department."
A pioneer, Gwen was the first student to graduate from the radiation therapy program at Yale-New Haven Hospital. After years of practicing at New York Presbyterian, she moved back home and joined Saint Raphael's as a per diem.
Gwen enjoyed Saint Raphael's intimate setting and the personal attention she could give her patients and decided to come on board fulltime. Seventeen years later, she's still here. "The stained glass windows and other amenities make for a beautiful work environment."
Ever the challenge seeker, Gwen enjoys keeping up with the latest technology and working in a multidisciplinary environment. "Saint Raphael's uses state of the art computers and equipment, so we are learning all the time. And we're included in the decision making process with a great team of physicians, nurses, physicists, dosimetrists, and therapists."
One of the benefits of a working in a community like Saint Raphael's is that therapists can see the results of their work on a regular basis. "I've had former patients come up to me at the local market and say 'I'm still alive! Thank you!' It's very rewarding."
