Here are some of the special programs and services offered by the Father Michael J. McGivney Center for Cancer
Care.
Social
Services
Staff members and volunteers are available to offer patients “practical
assistance,” such as making transportation arrangements, finding home
care and getting in touch with financial counselors.

Pastoral care
Members of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth and Saint Raphael
chaplains of many faiths are available 24 hours a day to offer patients
and their families spiritual support and guidance – or just an understanding
ear.

Psychiatric services
Saint Raphael mental health experts are available to talk with patients
and their families. Ask your doctor about arranging an appointment
or making a referral.

Looking Foward Boutique
Volunteers – many of whom are cancer survivors -- help patients
learn how to apply makeup, wear turbans, scarves, wigs and other
accessories when hair loss or skin changes occur. Call (203)

Saint Raphael dieticians are available to talk with patients and
their families. Ask your doctor about arranging an appointment

Resource library and American Cancer
Society database
At the McGivney Center, a lending library of reference,
inspirational, nutrition and self-help books is designed to empower
patients with information about their illness. Internet research
is also available. And the on-site American Cancer Society database
provides daily-updated information on everything from available
treatments and statistics, to complementary therapies and the latest
research findings. Staff members and volunteers are available to
help those who aren’t computer literate.

Looking Forward
A program designed to educate cancer patients through
research, support and health alternatives that promote self-esteem
and quality of life. Free monthly workshops are offered on varying

Stress management, relaxation workshops
A number of regular workshops are run by both McGivney Center
staff and Looking Forward volunteers. Call (203) 789-3131
for more information. If you’re already receiving treatment
