The Menopause Center was established to address the needs of women over the age of 40 who might be experiencing symptoms of perimenopause or menopause, such as hot flashes, irregular periods, day/night sweats, sleep disturbances, mood swings, depression, urinary problems and sexual difficulties.
The Center is run by a team of physicians board certified in women's health, including resident physicians, allied health professionals, nutritionists, social workers and nursing and bilingual support staff.
Services offered at the Menopause Center include:
- Complete check-ups;
- Tests (for example, cholesterol, thyroid function screening and Pap smear);
- Diet and exercise counseling;
- Referrals for mammograms and bone density testing; and
- Hormone replacement therapy.
Right now, the center accepts Medicare, Connecticut HUSKY and Medicaid, including Blue Care Family Plan, Health Net, Community Health Network and First Choice of Connecticut. Other insurance plans may be accepted in the future. Financial assistance is available for the uninsured.
The Center is located on the second floor of the Orchard Medical Center in Outpatient Services. It is open every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
