Cyberknife Center

At Saint Raphael's, tumors have nowhere to hide.

CyberKnife® Radiosurgery is a revolutionary system that destroys tumors with pinpoint accuracy anywhere in the body, even those previously considered inoperable. In the region, this cancer-fighting technology is only available at the Hospital of Saint Raphael.

Thousands of patients have been successfully treated with CyberKnife for tumors of the brain, spine, neck, lung, liver, prostate and pancreas among others.

Because CyberKnife is noninvasive, it has far fewer risks and complications than traditional surgery. Benefits of CyberKnife treatment include:

  • No pain
  • No incisions
  • Bloodless procedure
  • No anesthesia required
  • No recovery time
  • Outpatient procedure
  • Immediate return to normal activity
  • Improved comfort - no invasive head or body frame
  • Accurately tracks tumors that move with breathing
  • No implanted markers
  • Targets multiple locations during a single session
  • Treatment in one to five sessions

CyberKnife radiosurgery is a noninvasive radiation treatment that can be an alternative to traditional surgery in many cases. It uses image-guided robotics to destroy tumors with precisely directed beams of radiation.

With Cybe
rKnife, multiple radiation beams enter the body from different targeting positions and angles, and intersect within the tumor or lesion. This focused radiation is high enough to destroy the cancer cells or stop the active growth of tissue, while minimizing damage to the surrounding healthy tissue and nearby critical structures.

The CyberKnife targeting system offers improved tumor control with few side effects and fewer treatments. While conventional radiation therapy may require as many as 30 to 45 sessions, CyberKnife needs just one to five sessions (one to two hours each) to do its work.
