Vascular Bypass Surgery

If the vascular blockage cannot be treated with other methods, you may need to undergo bypass surgery. In this surgical procedure, a graft made either of a leg vein or a synthetic tube is used to create a new path around the blocked artery. The incision site will depend on the type of graft and the location of the blockage. The graft is stitched into the artery above and below the blockage, and then the incision is closed with stitches or staples.
